Transcript:How to Apply Pastel Smoky Eyes
Hi, I'm Mattie Sproul here for About.com, and today I'm going to show you how to do a smoky eye using pastel colors.During the spring and summer months, pastel smoky eyes are a fantastic alternative to the traditional dark-hued smoky eye. So put away those browns and grays and get ready to lighten up your look.
Supplies Needed for Pastel Smoky Eyes
Before we get started, you'll need the following items: face cleanser, make-up brushes, foundation, charcoal eyeliner, a platinum or champagne eyeshadow, a medium pink eyeshadow, a deep purple or amethyst eyeshadow, a gold eyeliner or gold shadow, mascara, and eyelash curler.Apply an Even Base and Charcoal Eyeliner for Pastel Smoky Eyes
The first thing we'll need to do is make sure that we have a smooth and even base. After you've washed your face with a cleanser of choice, go ahead and apply your foundation with either a foundation brush or a sponge. Now that our base has been applied, we'll begin constructing our pastel smoky eye with eyeliner. When doing a pastel smoky eye, charcoal eyeliner is best as it helps to deepen the tones of the pastels. We'll start by applying a thin line of eyeliner at the inner corner of the eye as close to the eyelashes as possible. The line should gradually thicken as you move the liner outward on your eyelid.
Once the line is complete, grab your smudging brush and work the liner down into the lash line using a circular motion. Be sure to line the membrane of your lower eyelid with your eyeliner as well.
Apply Bright Eyeshadows for Pastel Smoky Eyes
Now that your eyeliner is applied, grab your eye shadow and your dome-shaped brush. Start by applying your platinum or champagne shade just above the eyeliner, all the way up to your brow bone. I'm using a platinum shadow here.Next, apply your medium pink eyeshadow across your eyelid, blending it into your eyelid crease with your brush. Finally, apply your deep purple shadow across your lash line, blending upward and outward with a smudge brush. Finish the eye shadow component of your pastel smoky eye, by dabbing a bit of gold eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes. You can also use a gold eye pencil to get the same effect.
When choosing pastel eye shadows, give your eye color consideration. Pinks, greens, and plums will give the best results for brown eyes, while light purples and dark blues will give the best results for blue and green eyes.
Finish With Mascara for Pastel Smoky Eyes
Last, but not least, apply two coats of black mascara to each eye and finish with your eyelash curler. You can also apply a light coat of mascara to your lower lashes for a more dramatic effect. And voila! Just like that you've got pastel smoky eyes that are sure to draw attention and complement all of your spring and summer couture. Thanks for watching.
