Transcript:Homemade Honey Vanilla Lip BalmHi, I'm Natasha Levitan for About.com. Ever had chapped lips? I have! Over time I've spent at least a hundred dollars on different varieties of lip balm, and you know what? Most of them come up short on expectations. Most of the ones I've tried don't taste very well or don't moisturize my lips.
So I've taken it to the task of making my own. Today I'm going to show you how to make lip balm with honey and vanilla.
Vanilla Honey Lip Balm IngredientsYou'll need:
- 2 tbsp. petroleum jelly
- 1/8 tsp. vitamin E oil
- 1 tbsp. beeswax
- 1 tsp. honey
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Melt the Lip Balm IngredientsInto a small microwavable bowl, place the petroleum jelly and beeswax. Put the bowl into a microwave for about 5 minutes. You may want to take it out half way and mix the contents to ensure the heating is even. After the beeswax and petroleum jelly have turned into a transparent liquid, take the bowl out.
Add the Lip Balm FlavorsLeave the bowl to cool to room temperature for about 5-10 minutes, then add honey and vanilla and mix everything together. As you mix in your flavors you'll notice that the texture is becoming thicker.
Storing the Homemade Lip BalmPour in your warm lip balm into your lip balm container. It's ready to be used. You can keep it for 4-6 weeks or until you get tired of it. And the best way to find out how good your lip balm is, is taste it!
