Hi! My name is Tye Coe for About.com, I am a celebrity, hair, makeup and fashion stylist and today we are at the fabulous BeSu Salon and Day Spa here in New York City and I am going to show you how to get the Kourtney Kardashian half up, half down look.

Section the Hair and Add Volume to the Style

In creating this look you want to first start with a side part, you are going to then take the base of the part and part into a triangle. After you have your triangle section parted, you are going to then take an ear-to-ear part, clip that section off, and, in the back, you are going to take from the top of the ear all the way across to the half way point in the back of the head.

So once you have that section parted off, you are going to create some volume in this top section here. So we are going to do that with some light backcombing. So we are going to back comb at the base and spray the root. Once you have done that you are going to twist this section and pop it up and add your bobby pins at the base. So after you have got the back section pinned up you are going to then take the front section that you had clipped off and incorporate it into the back section and pin at the base as well. Polish the side out with a bit of hairspray.

Curl the Hair and Use Hairspray to Maintain the Style

With the front triangle section, you will spray the entire section with hairspray and then we are going to curl this section going back. We are then going to continue with doing the same type of curls in vertical sections throughout the rest of the hair. Make sure you spray each section first with hairspray: it will help to hold the curls longer. Okay, so once you have curled all of your sections in the vertical sections going back, we are just going to go ahead and separate the curls with our fingers. You will continue this throughout the entire hairstyle.

After you have gone through and separated all of the curls with your finger-styling, you are going to then finish out the style with some hairspray. You can lift though some of the curls just to pick them up a little bit and spray them: it is going to give it just a little bit more volume. And this is how you get the Kourtney Kardashian, Half Up, Half Down Look.
