Hi, I'm Abby Feldman with About.com. Bobs are becoming super trendy these days because they're easy to manage, versatile, and very flattering. But getting your cropped cut to be stylish is not that easy. We're going to show you how to make the best out of hair products to style your bob, keeping it cute and collected.
Use Hair-Specific Shampoo and Conditioner Products for a Bob
To begin, wash your hair with products specific to your hair. For example, if you have color or treated hair, use a shampoo designed for just that. Loreal' Vive Pro. Color Vive Shampoo will be sure to enhance your highlights and add shine.
If your hair is curly, use a shampoo that reduces frizz. This also applies for the conditioner. Try shampoos and conditioners from Pantene Pro-V, as many offer moisture and vitamins to your hair. Their Pro-V Restoratives Frizz Control Conditioner is sure to keep your hair frizz-free even in the most humid of weather.
Use a Smoothing Product for a Bob
It's best to comb your hair using a wide-tooth comb when you're out of the shower, as this will prevent damage. Apply a smoothing hair product, such as a serum or cream, over the middle and ends of your hair if it is naturally curly or wavy. Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum is excellent because it smooths and conditions your locks.
It's also very lightweight and will add a shiny seal to your hair. You may not need a product if your hair is naturally straight. Before styling, apply a small amount of styling gel or mousse to your wet hair from the roots to ends, like Tresemme's Thermal Creations Mousse, which protects hair from heat damage.
Heat Protecting Spray Is a Good Product for a Bob
Heat protecting spray can also be used to hold the style before blow-drying and make the hair shinier. To best blow dry your hair for a bob, start by gathering the top section of your hair and secure it with style clips to prevent it from getting in your way.
Begin at the lowest section of your hair, curling under by using a round brush as you blow your hair dry from roots to tip. Continue by bringing down each section and repeat the process until all of the sections are complete. Comb through the sections, following through with a flat-iron.
Use Hair Accessories to Finish Styling a Bob
Hair accessories such as headbands, decorative bobby pins, and clips can add some fun and flair to any bob haircut. If your bob allows it, you can use a small ponytail or pigtails to create a more casual, playful look. Depending on your face shape, you can choose to part your hair in the middle, on the side, or somewhere in between. Harsh side parts often look best with bobs, creating a sleek and flattering look.
You're good to go! Stylish, shiny, and short will make you get noticed and feel awesome. For more styling tips like these, visit us at About.com. Thanks for watching.
