Transcript:How to Make a Tila Bead Bracelet
Hi, this is Angela Dawn with About.com, coming to you from Beads by Design, in Atlanta, Georga, and today I am going to be showing you how to make a fancy tila bead bracelet.
To make the bracelet you will need:
- 32 tila beads, it varies by the length of bracelet
- 7 grams of black seed beads, size 11
- thread conditioner
- beading tools
- beading thread, 6 lb.
- a beading needle, size 12
- and a copper round toggle clasp
How to Set Up for Making Your Tila Bead Bracelet
Measure your wrist and then count out the beads you will need to match that length. Now, measure two yards of thread and thread your needle. Run your thread through thethread conditioner. Start off with a small seed bead leaving a 12 inch tail. Run the thread through the bead. Do this a second time and then pull until it's secure.
Beading the Tila Beads
Run your needle up through the first hole in the tila bead. Then, run the thread back down the inner hole of the second tila bead. Now go back through the inner hole of your first tila bead. Go up through the outer hole of the second tila bead. And add a third bead, and thread through the inner hole. Repeat the same pattern. Repeat this until you've reached the end. Make two of these the same length.
Beading the Seed-Beads
Prepare a new needle and thread. Run it up through the outer hole and down the inner hole. Add five small beads to your thread. Run the thread through your other bracelet and pull till secure. Go up through the outer hole of the second tila bead and add five more small beads to your thread. Run the thread up through the same hole in the upper bracelet, and back down through four beads. Repeat this until you reach the end and tie it off.
Cut off the loose thread, and begin adding four small beads through the thread. Take one small bead and run it half way down. Then run the needle through the top of the bead again and pull to secure the beads. Run the needle back up through all the beads in the first row. Repeat this again.
Add five small beads and then run backwards through the fifth one. Run the thread through the small beads and the first tila bead. Then run it back through the second tila bead. Add your small beads and then run the needle back through them to give them more strength. Repeat this same pattern all the way down doing two fringes on a side at a time, going through each left hole. Tie it off at the end, and cut off the loose thread. Go through the inner hole, then the outer hole and tie it off. Add five small beads to your thread and thread them through the first hole on the clasp. Add five more and thread them through the outer hole of the lower tila bead.
Attaching the Clasps
Run the needle back up through all of the first pair of small beads, and then down through the second pair. Tie it off at the end and cut off the loose thread. Run your thread through the first line of seed beads, and repeat the same process to attach this side. Run your needle through the hole and tie two knots, and cut off the thread. String a new thread on the other side of the bracelet, and repeat the same process to attach this end of the clasp.
