Hi, I'm Melissa Shippee, owner of MGS Designs. I'm here today with About.com to make a beaded bezel using Peyote stitch.
Tools You'll Need to Make a Beaded Bezel Using Peyote Stitch
To do this, you'll need a stone or caochon you'll want to bezel, size 11/0 cylinder beads, size 15/0 Japanese seed beads, size 14/0 or 15/0 Czech seed beads, a beading needle and beading thread.
How to Start a Beaded Bezel Using Peyote Stitch
To start, you'll need to pickup enough size 11/0 cylinder beads to wrap around the widest part of your stone. Since many people have done this before, you can look up how many cylinder beads you'll need for the standard size stone you're using. After you pick up enough beads, push them down your thread toward the end but don't let them fall off. Leave enough of a tail thread to weave into the bead work later and trim.
Form Loop and Add Cylinder Beads to the Beaded Bezel
Then stitch through the first few beads you picked up to form a loop. Work a round of peyote stitch off of this initial loop using size 11/0 cyclinder beads. To do this, you'll pick up a bead, skip over a bead, and then stitch through the next. The number of rows of cylinder beads you'll need to add in peyote stitch varies by the size and the shape of the stone. You can either find out how many rows of cylinder beads you'll need to use by looking up the information or by playing around with it yourself.
Add Size 15/0 Japanese Seed Beads to the Beaded Bezel
After you finish adding the rows of cylinder beads that you'll need, you'll move on to the size 15/0 Japanese seed beads. Again the number of rows of these beads that you need to add varies by the size and the shape of your stone.
Add Size 14/0 Or 15/0 Czech Seed Beads to the Beaded Bezel
After you add the required rows of size 15/0 Japanese seed beads, you'll move on to the size 14/0 or 15/0 Czech seed beads. You'll add these in peyote stitch just as you had the size 15/0 Japanese seed beads.
Weave Through the Back Side of the Beaded Bezel
After you've finished the front side of the bezel, weave through the beads to the back side. You'll need to bring your thread out of a cylinder bead to start the back side of the bezel. If you have a stone that's the same shape on the front side and the back side, you'll stitch the same exact rows on the back side.
And that's how to make a beaded bezel using peyote stitch. Thank you for watching. To learn more, please visit About.com.
