Transcript:How to Make a Basic Hexagon Beaded Earring
Hi, this is Angela Dawn with About.com, here at Beads by Design in Atlanta, Georgia, and today I am going to show you how to make basic hexagon bead earrings.
Materials for Making Hexagon Bead Earings
To make these earrings you will need:
- 24 11/0 Blue Seed Beads
- 48 9/0 White Seed Beads
- 12 8 mm Dark Blue Swarovski Bicones
- 12 8 mm Light blue Swarovski bicones
- 12 10 mm clear Swarovski rounds
- 1 size 12 beading needle
- 2 earing hooks or clip ons and
- 6 lb beading cord
How to Begin Beading an Earing
First, thread your needle with a 2 foot length of beading cord. For this pattern we are going to be working in a spiral, moving right to left. String 6 11/0 seed beads leaving a 6 in tail. Go through the beads a second time making a circle. You do not want to tie it off. This will give the beads room to fall into place.
Adding Swaravski Bicones to Your Earings
You want to go through one bead and add 1 8 mm Swarovski bicone and 2 blue seed beads. Pull them all the way down. Take the needle and go through the first seed bead you just added. Then add one clear Swarovski round, and pull it tightly together.
Add 2 blue seed beads and 1 8 mm Swarovski bicone.
Next you want to go through two of the white center beads you just started with, repeating the same pattern.
Add one 8 mm Swarovski bicone, and two blue seed beads. Go back up the first blue seed bead, and add one clear Swarovski round.
You want to take your needle down the first blue seed bead, to the left of the earring. Then through the 8 mm Swarovski bicone, and then through two white center seed beads. Repeat the process until you have added all of your light blue 8 mm Swarovski bicones.
How to Add More Beads to a Hexagon Beaded Earing
Once you've completed the pattern, and added your last blue bicone, you want to go up through the first blue seed bead and add a one clear round and go down the second blue bead, into the blue biacone. Then, over two white beads, and up the through the 8 mm Swarovski bicone, and into the first blue bead, and then add a clear Swarovski round. Then over to the first blue seed bead to the left, then down the 8mm Swarovski biacone.
Next you want to go over two white beads, then up the blue bicone. Enter the second blue bead and go through the clear Swarovski round. Add one white seed bead, and one dark blue 8mm Swarovski biacone, and then another white seed bead.
Then pass through the right clear Swarovski round. You want to do this until you make a complete circle.
How to Add the Earing Hook to Your Hexagon Earings
Next add on your earring hook. Go through the clear Swarovski round, white seed bead, dark blue 8 mm Swarovski biacone, and other white seed bead.
Add three white beads, and then your earring hook or clip on, and another three white beads. Next go down the blue seed bead, 8 mm light blue Swarovski bicone; making your way to the center. Move your thread to the bicone with the tail, then tie your string off. Cut the remaining cord, then repeat the same process for the second earring .
