Hi, I am Gina with About.com Food making a steak lover's favorite: peppered NY strip. I like to grill my New York strip steaks but for added touch, I use cracked peppercorns, not ground. That solid pepper flavor is what makes this steak so great.
Ingredients for Peppered New York Strip Steak
The ingredients you need are:
- 4 1-inch thick NY strip steaks
- 1/4 cup black peppercorns, slightly crushed
- 3 tablespoons lemon pepper seasoning
- 1/2 cup lemon juice
- salt to taste
Prep the Peppered New York Strip Steak
First place peppercorns into a coffee grinder that is not used for coffee, or a food processor to partially crush the peppercorns. Cover one side of steaks with crushed pepper and press in firmly. Sprinkle with lemon pepper seasoning, lemon juice and salt. Turn steaks over and repeat the same process. Place in refrigerator for 3 hours uncovered.
Grill the Peppered New York Strip Steak
Heat grill to med high or 400 degrees. First brush grates with olive oil and place steaks over hottest part of fire for 3 minutes, then turn the steaks over for another 3 minutes. Move the steaks to a cooler part of grill and continue to cook until done to your liking. Medium rare has an internal temp of 145 degrees.
Tips for Serving Peppered New York Strip Steak
Be careful to not over grill. Remove and let the steaks rest for 5 minutes. This recipe serves 4. Serve with your favorite side dishes and a rich black cherry and currant Cabernet wine.
