Transcript:How to Make Piedmont Barbecue Sauce
Hi, I'm Gina Miller here with a special recipe from the About.com Barbecues and Grilling site: Piedmont BBQ sauce. Piedmont is a a city in North Carolina that has become famous for a classic Carolina-style barbecue sauce. This sauce is very different and is usually added at the table after the meat is cooked and served. This sauce has a thin consistency and has more of a tangy, tart, yet slightly sweet taste.
Ingredients for Piedmont Barbecue Sauce
To make this unique BBQ sauce, the ingredients you'll need are:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1-1/2 cup cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Make the Piedmont Barbecue Sauce
Let's prepare the sauce. In a bowl, blend together with a whisk the ketchup, water, cider vinegar, sugar, salt and red pepper flakes. Whisk, then refrigerate for several days to allow the flavors to blend. This recipe makes 2-1/2 cups, enough for 2-3 lbs of meat.
Tips for Using the Piedmont Barbecue Sauce
Keep this sauce in a squeeze bottle with a thin neck for easy pouring. Shake before using over your smoked pulled pork or chopped beef brisket.
