These baked beans get the majority of their flavor from burn brisket ends, which may seem a bit unusual, but this is the secret to great taste.When smoking a brisket, the outside ends of the brisket are usually burnt but full of amazing flavor and when added to the beans it is the perfect addition.

Tips for Making Tasty Kansas City Baked Beans

If you are not making brisket, cut up some steak and grill it till almost burned, then chop and add a cup to add to your beans in place of the cup of chopped brisket.

Ingredients for Kansas City Baked Beans

The Ingredients you will need are:

  • 1 pound dry navy beans
  • 6 cups water
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1 cup burnt Brisket or Steak ends
  • 2 bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 strips bacon
  • 1/3 cup dark molasses
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Preparing KC Baked Beans

Cover the dry beans in water and soak for 4 hours, and then drain. Now add 6 cups of water back in to the pot with the beans, set on the stove, and cook on high heat and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the beans to a low simmer..and cook for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. After the beans have softened, now add the salt and continue cooking until the beans are soft enough to mash between your fingers.

Now Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Next in skillet fry the bacon until crisp, drain the bacon and set aside.. do not drain the bacon drippings, instead now add the chopped onion and peppers to the bacon drippings and sauté until soft. To assemble all the ingredients, first in a baking dish sprayed with cooking spray. Now Crumble the cooked bacon and place the sautéed onion and peppers with the bacon in the coated baking dish. Now add the cooked beans, the barbecue sauceapple ciderbrisket burnt endsdark molassesmustardcider vinegar and mix throughly and cover with foil. Bake for 1 hour, then remove the cover, stir and continue baking for about 15 minutes.The recipe serves 8 to 10 people as a side with your favorite grilled BBQ cuisine.
