Hi, My name is Kenneth Nickle, I've been cooking Barbecue in Kansas City for a little over ten years. I trained at BB's Lawnside, competed with the Nickle boys BBQ team in competitions all over Missouri, and right now I work at Fiorella's Jack Stack. Today I'm going to talk about how to make Jack Daniels glazed ribs for About.com.
Information About the Jack Daniels Glazed Ribs
We're making Jack Daniels Glazed barbecue ribs, the glaze is just a glaze that you are going to put on the ribs towards the end of the cooking process. You don't need to worry about using a specific type of rub or a specific type of rib. We're just focusing mainly on the glaze here. Today we're using a pork spare rib and my favorite rub and I found a recipe on about.com for the Jack Daniels glaze.
Ingredients for Jack Daniels Glazed Ribs
For the ingredients, you will need:
- 1 cup Jack Daniels Whiskey
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup vinegar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon of dry mustardt
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions for Making Jack Daniels Glazed Ribs
Put all of these ingredients together and let it simmer for 20 minutes. You don't want them to simmer by themselves or else you will start to get it to burn to the bottom of the pan. So make sure your standing there stirring the ingredients so that it doesn't burn and stick to the bottom of the pot, because that will just throw off the taste.
Putting the Jack Daniels Glaze on the Ribs
You put the glaze on the ribs about 15 to 20 minutes before the ribs are done. Pull them out of the smoker, cut them up and serve them with your favorite sides. I like to use potato salad and beans and pickles of course.
Things to Remember When Making Jack Daniels Glazed Ribs
Just remember that your the pitmaster and you're in charge. So if you want a little more Jack Daniels flavor in your glaze, add some whisky. Or if you want it spicy add some more cayenne pepper. The alcohol does burn out of the sauce, so it is okay to serve to the kids, but I don't think they're going to like it very much.
Now if you bought Jack Daniels glaze at the store it's only going to have a small amount of that alcohol flavor in it. So if you're a big fan of that alcohol flavor in your sauce, you might want to go ahead and make the sauce yourself.
