Transcript:How to Brine Meat
Hi, I'm Gina Miller with About.com Food and today we are going to talk about how to brine meat. When you brine meats before you cook, you will get a tastier, more savory flavor.
Ingredients for Brining Meat
Here are ingredients for 1 pound of meat:
- 1 gallon of water
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 tablespoons of allspice
- 2 tablespoons of garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons of onion powder
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
Create the Brine for the Meat
Let's get started brining meat. First, add 1 cup of table salt to 1 gallon of water, you can also add a 1/2 cup of sugar for a little sweet flavor. Next, add any other herbs or spices you desire to the mix. I, personally, like to add a little fresh lemon juice to the mix.
Brine the Meat
Finally, place the meat in the brine and set it in the refrigerator. Depending on what type of meat and how much of it you have, brining times will vary anywhere from 2 hours to 24 hours. And that's how to brine meat.
