Transcript:How to Make Crock Pot Pulled PorkHi, I'm Roblé for About.com. Today I'm going to show you how to make pulled pork. We will be using a slow cooker, a.k.a. Crock pot to make our pulled pork. Here we go.
Ingredients for Crock Pot Pulled PorkHere are our ingredients:
- 5 lbs. pork shoulder
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 2 cups beef stock
- 1 tbl. kosher salt
- 2 tsp. fresh cracked black pepper
- 2 tsp. elated garlic
- 2 tsp. onion powder
- 1 tbl. smoked paprika
- vegetable oil
Instructions for Making Crock Pot Pulled PorkFor our first step we will combine all of our dry spices and salt. Combine them in a bowl and mix everything together very well. We are going to take a spice mixture and sprinkle it all over the pork shoulder. You want to rub it in there very well. You want to let this rest for 10 minutes.
After Rubbing in Dry Spices Into the PorkSo, 10 minutes later I'm going to take some of this blended oil and drizzle it all over the pork shoulder. Drizzle some oil on the pan is well and then roll the pork shoulder around in the oil to get a nice even cooking. So here we had a screaming hot grill pan. We are going to use this to sear our pork. If you don't have one of the you can use a cast iron pan or a regular sauté pan. this step is what's going to give us the good flavor. Place your pork shoulder on the pan. Let it sit here for about two or three minutes until it gets a nice mark. We will keep moving the pork around marking it on each side until it's fully seared all around.
So, right here in our slow cooker or Crockpot we are going to add in our beef stock and barbecue sauce. Be sure to stir it in together. Add in our pork shoulder. Right here in the middle. Cover it up.
Cooking the Pulled Pork in the Crock PotWe are going to turn up our slow cooker or Crockpot up to high and let it cool for six hours or until the meat is falling off of the bone. About two hours later you want to go back in and flip the pork shoulder over. This will ensure even cooking. Now let it cook for another four hours.
After Cooking the PorkSo, four hours later and our pork shoulder is fully cooked. The meat is very tender and it is literally falling off of the bone. Next we are going to take this off of the heat and let it rest for a good 15 minutes. Make sure you save the cooking liquid. We are going to make this back in later. It has a ton of flavor. So, here is our pork. It is in a bowl. I have on two pairs of gloves. This will insulate my hands from the heat. Now I'm going to go right in and match up the pork with my hands. Once it's all broken up like you see here, the next thing you want to do is take your cooking liquid and pour it right in. Mix it in well with your hands. And here you have your pulled pork. This will go great as a sandwich. I even used it for pulled pork tacos.
