Hi, I'm Jamal Andress for About.com and today we're profiling NBA point guard Chris Paul.
Chris Paul's Early Life
Christopher Paul was born in 1985 in Lewisville, North Carolina. After only one year of varsity basketball, Paul signed a letter of intent to play for Wake Forest after his junior year. In his senior year of high school, he averaged almost 31 points -- and put up a monstrous 61-point performance the day of his gra in the season opener in honor of his recently deceased grandfather.
Paul at Wake Forest
In two seasons with the Demon Deacons, Paul and Wake Forest made two NCAA Tournament appearances -- one going to the Sweet Sixteen. Paul broke several school freshman records including three-point shooting percentage, free throws and free throw percentage. When he declared for the 2005 NBA Draft, Paul was second on Wake's all-time career three-point shooting percentage.
Drafted by New Orleans Hornets in 2005
Paul was taken as the fourth overall pick by the New Orleans Hornets in the 2005 NBA draft. He led NBA rookies in points, assists, steals and minutes and was named Rookie of the Year. He also achieved his first career triple-double in April of the 05-06 season.
Paul in New Orleans
During the 2007-2008 season Paul led the Hornets to the Playoffs and beat the Dallas Mavericks in the first round. He finished second in MVP voting to Kobe Bryant. The next season he broke an NBA record for consecutive games with a steal when he reached 108 games with a steal.
Traded to Los Angeles Clippers
During the 2011 offseason, Paul was going to be part of a three-way trade between the Hornets, the Houston Rockets and the L.A. Lakers that would send Paul to Los Angeles. But because the league owned the Hornets, NBA commissioner David Stern nullified the trade and Paul would later be sent to the Los Angeles Clippers.
