NarrationHi, I m Rachel Edelman for about.com food. Rice Krispie Bars are delicious at any age. Today I m going to show you step by step how to make these sticky treats.
For this recipe you will need, 1 4 cup butter, One 10 ounce package (about 40) regular marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows, 6 cups crispy rice cereal, a 9X 13 baking pan, a wooded spoon and non stick cooking spray.
Lightly grease a 13x9 pan.
Put a large saucepan on medium high heat. In the pan, melt ¼ cups of butter. Spread the butter so it coats the bottom of the pan. For a lighter version, use only 3 tbs of butter.
Once the butter is melted, add 10 oz of regular sized marshmallows or 4 cups of mini marshmallows. If you are cooking with children, have them help by counting as you add one marshmallow at a time. You can also count by 1 cup increments. Or you can just pour the whole bag in.
Stir the butter and marshmallows until they are completely melted. Once the mixture is smooth, remove the pan from the heat and add the rice crispies. You can do this a bit at a time and mix, or put all of the cereal in at once. With large wooden spoon, stir the cereal into the marshmallow. Keep mixing until the cereal is completely coated. You ll notice that the mixture gets stickier as the marshmallow cools.
Pour the mixture into the pan. Butter a wooden spoon and press down onto the mixture to make a nice even top for the rice crispy treats. Allow the pan to cool for 10 15 minutes before cutting. Using a knife or pizza cutter slice the mixture into squares. Stack and serve!
