Hi, Cliff Wildman here with About.com Food. Today, I'm going to show you how to make a delicious gooey dessert called the Whoopie Pie.Whoopie Pie Ingredients
The ingredients you'll need are:- 1/2 cup of cocoa
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar
- 1/2 a tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 a teaspoon of baking powder
- 4 ounces of marshmallows
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg at room temperature
- and 1 stick of butter softened
Prepare Over and Baking Sheet
First we'll spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Xext we'll preheat the oven to 350 degrees.Sift Together Dry Ingredients
Sift together the dry ingredients, which is the cocoa, the flour, the baking powder and the baking soda. Mix that up together well and then sift.Mix Together Batter
In another bowl we'll place the butter and the brown sugar and we'll use a hand mixer to mix together very well until the batter gets stiff peaks. Next add the egg and again using the hand mixer gently mix the egg until it is part of the batter. Finally, we'll add the vanilla and the buttermilk. Use the hand mixer until all these ingredients are mixed well together.Add Dry Ingredients Slowly to Batter
In a large bowl place the wet ingredients in the bottom, start the hand mixer on low and then begin to slowly add the dry ingredients. This will take a couple of minutes. Once you have it mixed together well you'll notice it almost looks like cake icing.Add Dollops to Baking Sheet
On the baking sheet we're going to place tablespoon dollops onto the baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes. Take those out and cool them.Prepare Marshmallows
And while those are cooling we're going to take a tablespoon of water and pour them over the marshmallows. Place them in the microwave for about 30 seconds, pull out, stir, heat on high again for about 10 seconds. They should be pretty melted by now, just continue to stir and bring them over to the baking sheet. We're going to dollop on about a tablespoon of marshmallow onto the cookie and then make the sandwich. And these ready to eat pretty much immediately. Thanks for watching.
