Transcript:How to Make Chocolate Cupcake Cones

Hi, I'm Elizabeth LaBau with About.com. Today I'm going to show you how to make chocolate cupcake cones using a recipe from the About.com Baking site. These are perfect for parties, kids absolutely love them, and they're actually really easy to make too.

To Make Chocolate Cupcake Cones, You Will Need:

  • Enough chocolate cake batter to make 2 dozen cupcakes, either homemade or from a mix.
  • 2 cups of chocolate frosting
  • 24 flat-bottomed ice cream cones
  • Sprinkles or other toppings of your choice

Fill Cones with Cupcake Batter

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Stand each cone upright in the cavity of a muffin tin. You can also just place them on a baking sheet, but the muffin tins give them a little more space and stability. Fill each ice cream cone about a third full of cake batter. You can do this by using an ice cream scoop, or you can fill a large measuring cup with batter and pour it into the cone. Whichever method you choose, make sure that you don't overfill the cones. Give them at least an inch of space at the top to expand, so that the cake batter won't run over the sides of the cone when it bakes.

Bake, Cool and Decorate Your Chocolate Cupcake Cones

Once all the cones are filled, bake them in the 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes. They are done with the cake springs back when lightly pressed.Let the cupcake cones cool completely on a wire rack before you frost them. To apply the frosting, you can simply spread it on with a knife or a spatula. If you want to get a little fancier, you can put it in a piping bag or plastic bag with the corner cut off, and pipe swirls of frosting on top. After the cones are frosted, add sprinkles or any other decorations on top. Your cupcake cones are ready to be enjoyed!
