Hi, I'm Rachel Edelman for About.com Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make homemade waffles.Waffle Ingredients
For this recipe, you will need:- 2 cups sifted flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 egg yolks and whites
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 5 tablespoons melted butter
Prepare the Waffle Iron
First, plug in the waffle iron and prep it as needed according to the directions. For this machine, I need to brush some vegetable oil on it.Combine the Dry Ingredients
Next, pour the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Place the 2 cups of flour, and then add the 3 teaspoons of baking powder, the tablespoon of sugar, and the 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix these dry ingredients together.Combine the Wet Ingredients
In an electric stand mixer bowl, pour the egg whites. Whisk them quickly until they form stiff peaks. Set this aside. Then, in a smaller separate bowl, pour in the egg yolks and beat them well. Next, add the 1 1/2 cup of milk and the 5 tablespoons of melted butter. Mix these wet ingredients together.
Mix the Wet and Dry Ingredients
Now, slowly add to the wet ingredients to the bowl with the dry ingredients. Beat everything together until the batter is nice and smooth. Finally, fold in the egg whites.Cook and Serve the Waffles
I'm going to put the batter into a measuring cup to help pour the batter into each section of the hot waffle iron. Now close the top down and let it cook. This machine has a ready light. When it goes off, the waffles are ready. Serve with your favorite toppings and enjoy.
