Transcript:How to Make Chocolate Sugar CookiesHi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making chocolate sugar cookies, Let's get started.
Ingredients for Chocolate Sugar CookiesFor this recipe, you will need:
- 1 cup butter
- 3 oz. unsweetened chocolate
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
Instructions for Making Chocolate Sugar CookiesPlace the butter in a medium saucepan. Add the chocolate and melt over medium-low heat. Don't try to raise the heat to speed it up or the chocolate may seize up on you.
Ok, when it's melted, remove it from the heat, and stir in the sugar. Next, stir in the egg, then the vanilla.
Now add the flour, baking soda and salt. Stir it until the dough becomes stiff. Now turn it out onto a sheet of plastic wrap and knead it with your hands a few times.
Cover and chill for 2 hours or as long as overnight.
Now bring the dough to room temperature, and preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Break off about a third of the dough, and cover it with plastic wrap. This way you don't have to worry about the dough sticking to the rolling pin.
Roll the dough to 1/4 inch thick, and then peel off the plastic wrap.
Dip the cookie cutter into some flour - this keeps the dough from sticking to the cookie cutter.
Cut the dough with your cookie cutter. And if you have trouble with the dough sticking to your board, just use a spatula to scoop it onto your cookie sheet.
I've lined my cookie sheet with a silpat mat, but you can use parchment paper if you prefer.
Make sure you leave at least 1/2 inch of space between the cookies.
Baking the Chocolate Sugar CookiesNow bake the cookies for 10-14 minutes. And here are your chocolate sugar cookies.
