Do you ever plan to bake something, only to open the pantry and find you're out of a key ingredient? Then this recipe is for you.

Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for, and today we're making chocolate chip cookies with no brown sugar. Let's get started.

Ingredients for Chocolate Chip Cookies without Brown Sugar

For this recipe, you will need:

  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup of butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • the zest of 1 lemon (it's optional, but so good)
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 Tbsp. cream
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips

Preheat the Oven and Combine Dry Ingredients

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place the flour in a medium mixing bowl. Add the baking powder and the salt, and whisk together.

Mix in Wet Ingredients

Place the softened butter in a large mixing bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and the lemon zest. I just zest the lemon right over the mixing bowl. Be sure to use only the bright yellow part, not the white part of the lemon - it's bitter. Beat the sugar and the lemon zest. Add the egg, and beat well. Add the vanilla and the cream. And mix into the batter.

Slowly Add Flour Mixture and Chocolate Chips

Add the flour mixture in batches, beating on low speed, until incorporated. Add the chocolate chips and stir into the cookie dough.

Form and Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies

Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop the cookies onto ungreased or parchment-lined cookie sheets, leaving about an inch between the cookies. I like using parchment paper because it makes clean-up so easy.

Bake 16 to 19 minutes. The cookies are ready when they're just golden around the edges. Serve with a tall glass of milk. That's all for today. For more great recipes just like this one, join us on the web at
