Transcript: Homemade Chocolate Pudding Mix

Hi, I'm Rachel Edelman for About.com Food.

Today I'm going to show you how to make a chocolate pudding using a homemade mix.

Chocolate Pudding Mix

First we make the mix. This has all the dry ingredients that you can combine and store in an airtight quart sized container. I will use:
  • Three quarters of a cup of powdered milk
  • 1 cup of cornstarch, minus 2 tablespoons
  • 1 and a half cups of sugar
  • 3 quarters of a cup of cocoa powder
  • A half teaspoon of salt

Combining Chocolate Pudding Ingredients

Once everything is in your bowl, use a spoon to mix it all up. I'm going to use 2 thirds of a cup now to make the pudding, the rest I'll keep for another time.

Turning Pudding Mix into Pudding

For the pudding, I will combine 2 cups of milk and the mix and put it on a medium high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, then down to a simmer. Be sure to keep mixing it to prevent the chocolate from burning. After a few minutes, when you see that the pudding is nice and thick, take it off the stove and spoon it into a bowl to let it cool.

Refrigerate and serve.
