Hi , My name is Kristyn Haster, I am the owner of Halloween Express in Broomfield, Colorado and I am here today with About.com to discuss tips for buying a toddler's Halloween costume.
Check the Costume for Safety Hazards
So when you are looking to buy a toddler a Halloween costume some of the things that you are looking for is if the costume is flame resistant. You want to check out the costume to make sure there are no rhinestones or buttons or anything the child can possibly choke on. You want to make sure there aren't any strings or belts or anything else hanging on the costume that the toddler can possibly strangle himself with. It's important to look for costumes that have reflective material on them because the children will be outside trick or treating and it is a good safety precaution.
Costume Accessories Should be Age Appropriate
I don't recommend toddler's wearing masks for a few simple reasons. One is if the mask is not a correct fit that the toddler can have trouble seeing and can trip or fall; It can obstruct their ability to breathe. I suggest parents of toddler age children should stay away from costumes that have any weapons attached to them, like swords or knives, because kids tend to run around and can trip or fall and cut themselves.
The Child's Personality Should Show in the Costume
Another tip when buying a Halloween costume for a toddler would be to check out the length of a costume so the child does not trip. Some fun tips when taking your child out to go buy a costume is going with your child's personality. My child likes animal costumes so we put him in a dragon and penguin costume. If your child likes fairies, go check out the fairy costumes. It will make your shopping experience much more enjoyable. Thank you for watching and please visit us at About.com.
