Transcript:How to Make Kool Aid Play Dough

Hi, I'm Stephanie Gallagher for About.com, and today, we're making a Kool-Aid playdough from our Baby Parenting site.

Supplies for Making Kool Aid Play Dough

To make this playdough, you will need:
  • 2-1/2 to 3 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 package of Kool-Aid, any flavor
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 Tbsp. alum, which is a preservative - it isn't necessary, but it will make the playdough keep
  • fresh longer
  • 3 Tbsp. corn oil
  • 2 cups boiling water

Instructions for Making Kool Aid Play Dough

Place all of the ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add the boiling water, and begin by stirring with a spatula or wooden spoon. This playdough is very soft - I'm told it's great for playdough hair - but you may want to add some more flour if it it's too soft. I find this necessary especially in the summer months when there's high humidity in the air.

When the playdough becomes too stiff to stir with a spatula, use your hands to knead it, just as you would with any dough. To store the playdough, place it in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
