Transcript:Characteristics of an A-Frame Style Home
Hi, my name is Anita Cordell and I'm a real estate agent in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and I'm here today to talk to you about the A-frame style home on About.com.
The First A-Frame Home
Interest was piqued in 1957 when one was built in Long Island, New York, After that they became popular in mountain areas or beach areas. Various places where someone would want to purchase a vacation home. After that popularity started to decrease because of their practicality. One of the pros of an A-frame home is that they are less expensive due to the size is a little smaller and they are designed to take heavy loads of snowfall and let the snow roll right off. So they are popular in mountain resort areas and are used a lot of times when people want to build a second property or a vacation home. So they can be a little bit less expensive because of these features.
The A-Frame Roofline
An A-frame style home looks like a triangle. It looks like the top of an "A". So the roofline is really steep and the roofline actually goes all the way down to almost the foundation level or near to the ground, so it can be a little less expensive to maintain. Since roofs don't typically need to be painted, so their is less exterior paint and that can save on costs.
Resale for A-Frame Homes
As far as resale goes with an A-frame home. Resale in vacation areas, such as resorts even East or West coast, those types of areas will be great in your resale because they are a little bit less expensive, people like the feel of A-frame homes for their second home or vacation homes. But if it's outside of that area and in a non-traditional area where A-frames are not popular , sometimes the resale value can be a little tougher. So you might want to consider those things when you are looking at the property and the location for it.
