Transcript:Characteristics of a Raised Ranch House
Hi, My name is Anita Cordell and I am a real estate agent in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan area, and today I am going to talk to you about Raised Ranch house for About.com.
Raised Ranch Homes Have an Elevated Main Level
The Raised Ranch style home is very similar to a true ranch, which was also built around the 1940s to the 1980s, is when it became really popular. This style of home is very popular in the first time home buyers price range. One of the things that you do have to remember when you are looking at Raised Ranches is that the elevation of the main entry way or the main living area is going to be different than your garage.
So when you drive into your property you are going to have to walk up a flight of stairs in order to get to the main level. Which means if you are a young family with small children or are aging you are going to have to walk up that flight of stairs with your children or your groceries. So it's just something you are going to have to think about when you are purchasing this property. Even though everything is on the main level there is still going to be a flight of stairs that you are going to have to walk up in order to get to that level.
Pros and Cons of a Raised Ranch Home
The pro to buying a raised ranch is that it is going to be a little less expensive because the floor plan is going to be standard.
Another thing that you will have to keep in mind as well is that even though it is great that you are going to have a basement, however it will be slightly smaller than in a true ranch because you are giving away some of that space to your garage.
