Transcript:How to Cook a Hamburger Indoors
Hi, I'm Krystyna Rittichier with About.com and today I'll show you how to cook a hamburger indoors. Hamburgers taste great when cooked on a grill, but you can still make a great tasting burger indoors.
Hamburger Ingredients
For hamburgers, you will need:
- Lean hamburger
- Spices or flavorings (optional)
Different Seasonings for Burgers
Preheat your oven to broil. Mix the ground beef with your favorite flavorings. Fresh flavorings such as basil, chives, garlic or jalapeno give the hamburger great flavor, and can be stirred into the raw meat.
Liquid seasonings such as butter, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, barbeque sauce, steak sauce and sherry can be added to the hamburger meat before or during cooking.
For a grilled flavor, you can use seasonings with a smoky flavor such as smoked Spanish paprika, smoked sea salt, chipotle pepper, or even cumin. You can also use ½ teaspoon of liquid smoke per pound of meat.
Prepare Hamburger Patties
Form the beef into patties, and press a hole into the middle of each burger. This will help the patties to cook faster, and it will also prevent the meat from puffing up in the middle. Place a cooking pan on the stove over high heat, and sprinkle season salt and pepper in the pan. Sear the burgers for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side, then place them on a pan.
Cooking the Hamburgers
Place the patties in the preheated oven on the top rack and cook them for 3 to 5 minutes. The burgers are done when they are no longer pink in the middle, or when they reach 160 degrees in the middle of the patties. Serve the hamburgers with your favorite buns and toppings.
