Hi, I m Rachel Edelman for About.com Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make sloppy joes.Sloppy Joe Ingredients
For this recipe you will need:- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/2 onion
- 1/4 green bell pepper
- 1/4 red pepper
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp molasses
- 1 cup of water with 1/4 cup of brown sugar
Prepare the Sloppy Joe Vegetables
First prepare your vegetables. Cut off the end of the onion. Peel off the outer layer and by cutting vertically and then across, dice the onion. Next, take the pieces of green and red peppers and cut them into strips, and then into small pieces. Now, bring a skillet to medium heat and spray with a non-stick cooking spray. Add the minced garlic, the chopped onion, and the peppers.
Cook the Beef
Cook them for a few minutes and then add the ground beef. Break up the meat with the spatula and mix it in with the vegetables. Saute until the meat is brown. When it s ready, and all of the pink is gone from the meat, drain off the fat from the skillet.Season the Sloppy Joes
Return the skillet to the stove and add the ketchup. If you are watching your sodium, you can use no salt ketchup. Now add the water with brown sugar. Stir everything together. Then, bring the mixture to a boil, until cook until you see that most of the water had boiled away. Next add in the tbsp of molasses. Reduce the heat, and simmer for another 15 minutes.Serve on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings. Thanks for watching, to learn more visit us on the Web at food.about.com.
