Transcript:Quick Tip: How to Use Flaxseed
Hi I’m Maria Saracen from Artfully Nourished.com and in this video for About.com I’m going to be talking about how to use flaxseeds.
Flaxseed Health Benefits
They’re small but impressively rich in ALA, an omega-3 fatty acid, and they’re also high in fiber, protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
To get the most nutritional benefits from flax, try to buy the seeds whole and grind them at home, right before you use them. Grinding helps to make them more digestible and grinding them right before you eat them will keep them fresh and optimally nutritious.
Including Flaxseed in Meals and Snacks
You can put ground flax seeds in smoothies, sprinkled over cereal or oatmeal, or sprinkled into salads
You can also use flax seeds in baked goods and other cooked products, and in fact, flax can even substitute some or all of the oil or shortening that’s required in a recipe.
That’s quite a lot of options for a little seed! Thanks so much for watching and to learn more about flax seeds, please visit About.com
