Transcript:Quick Tip: How to Sprout Mung Beans
Hi I'm Maria Saracen from Artfully Nourished.com and in this video for About.com I'm going to show you how to sprout mung beans which is a really fun and easy project to do at home.
How to Start Sprouting Mung Beans
The first step is to soak your beans overnight or for at least 8-12 hours
Once they're finished soaking, drain the water and rinse the beans well. You're now ready to put them into a sprouting tray or jar. If you don't have one of these, you can also put them in a a mason jar covered with cheesecloth or in a glass bowl with the cover left slightly open, whichever you prefer.
In this video, I'm using a sprouting jar. It has a strainer lid, which makes it really easy to rinse the sprouts.
How to Care for Sprouting Mung Beans
Now you'll want to keep the beans at a temperature that's about 70 degrees and in place that doesn't have too much light - but not a cupboard because they do need ventilation.
Rinse and drain the beans every 8 hours or so throughout the sprouting process.
If you just want little mung bean sprouts, they'll be ready in about 2 days. Bigger sprouts will probably take about 4-5 days, depending on the conditions where they're growing.
And that's how you sprout mung beans. Thanks so much for watching. For more information about sprouting please visit About.com
