Transcript:How to Make Beet Juice
Hi, I'm Maria Saracen from ArtfullyNourished.com and in this video for About.com, I'm going to show you how to make a delicious beet juice.
Ingredients for Beet Juice
Here's what you'll need:
- 1 medium sized beet
- 2 apples
- 1 carrot
- 1/2 lemon
Prep the Vegetables for Beet Juice
The first step is to wash your raw fruit and vegetables. As long as you wash your beet very well, there’s no need to peel it, but of course, if you want to, you absolutely can. Next, you’re going to trim the stalk and the end off the beet. If the beet is small enough to fit into the chute of the juicer, you can leave it whole; otherwise, cut it into halves or quarters.
Make the Beet Juice
Once all your ingredients are ready to go, put them down the chute, using the plunger to help you move everything along. The order you put the ingredients into the juicer really doesn't matter. Once everything is juiced, pour it into a glass, give it a good stir and now, you're ready to enjoy your delicious beet juice.
Variations for Beet Juice
In terms of variations, you can add or substitute other ingredients into the juice like celery, cucumber and ginger. And if your beet has nice, healthy looking leaves, feel free to use those too. I certainly use them in my juice. Now if you're interested in making 100% pure beet juice, all you would need to do is juice a few beets. However, keep in mind that the flavor tends to be a bit too strong for most people to enjoy. Also, pure beet juice can be quite potent with several side effects, one of the most common ones being pink urine and dark stools. You might even get this side effect when mixing just a bit of beet juice with other juice, so don't be alarmed.
Tips for Storing Beet Juice
Ideally, you should drink your juice as soon as you’ve finished making it, because that's when it's the most fresh and flavorful. If you need to store it, you can put it in an airtight container and keep it in the fridge for a day or so.
