Transcript:Create a Business Tagline
Hi, I'm Don Schechter for About.com Money. After endless brainstorming sessions you may still be stuck trying to come up with a great tagline for your company. Here are some tips to help you flesh out ideas. What Should a Tagline Accomplish?
A tagline should work together with your logo and company name to identify your company branding. There are many different methods and approaches to writing taglines. Some are simply an illustrative statement for a call to action by consumers. For example, Nike's Just do it.Selecting a Tagline
You could link your product or a product feature with an abstract need or feeling. A Diamond is Forever. You can go with simple a simple description words. Usually you'll see these in threes. For example, one of my business taglines is Re-store, Re-edit, Re-live.You could suggest the risk of not using a product: "Because so much is riding on your tires."
If you have a logo you could tie in the tagline to that: "You're in good hands with Allstate."
When to Change Your Tagline
If you have a tagline, but its dated, you may want to change it. Changing your tagline can be just as effective as a whole new advertising campaign. A tagline is after all a first impression. If the whole world is already familiar with and perhaps tired of your company identity, change it up.How to Use Your Tagline
If you have a website, your logo and tagline should be on every page. Many companies forget to add this when building their websites. It helps build branding and makes your company more recognizable when the logo, tagline, website and whole marketing scheme is cohesive.Taglines should not only separate you from your competition but it should express the company's personality and attitude. Could someone glance at it and know what your company does? Would that tagline work for your competitors? Does it focus more on your company or the audience you're addressing? Taglines are only a few words, but they can invigorate a dated ad campaign, or establish your company branding.
